The New Cruze looks pretty good. Curb weight is slashed by 200lbs, and power is up to 153 HP and 177 lb-ft.
The interior is also vastly improved. I’d buy one over a Jetta, and, if the price is right, over a Mazda 3.

That is a very, very nice rental car.

That too.

Over a Mazda 3? Surely you jest. Maybe the sedan but definitely not the hatch!

Also, my parents rented a current-gen Malibu a little while ago. That thing’s actually pretty nice.

Meh, looks like a Chrysler 200 fucked a Cruze.

I’d definitely buy one over a Jetta or Focus, but not a Mazda3.

They are rather roomy inside aren’t they?

I complained when the new Camero was shown that they didn’t cut enough weight and everyone jumped on me about how shaving 200 lbs from a nearly 4000 lb car was impressive. The Cruze managed to save the same amount of weight from a lower starting point. Maybe the Camero program should have brought on some of the Cruze guys?

Very. They’re a much better car than the Sonata, Optima, and Passat. It’s even better than the Fusion.

Indeed.

It does look really good, I could even look into leasing one in two years but that would depend on whether it had a manual. The fact that it’s lighter is also a great thing.

A mid-range 3 hatch with the 2.0 is $22,950 up here (with the auto, because my dad can’t drive stick). If the Cruze is below $20k while being equipped similarly, then I’d buy it over a 3.

I do agree. I also agree with your sentiment on the new cruze. I will say the exterior seems a bit bland to me, but it's design is very purposeful.

Hell, in a few years, after I’m done with tech school and have a job, I might actually buy one. Given the reviews are positive which I don't see why they wouldn't be, it's better than the old car in every way, and that got great reviews.

Because economy, footprint, maintenance, financing, parts availability, etc.

I’m 99% sure it will have a manual, even if just to get the base price lower.

needs manual diesel wagon version. I would happily trade in my TDI sportwagon for one because:
1. I don’t really love the way mine is built
2. I don’t really have a lot of faith in the long term durability of the CJAA diesel.
![]() 06/25/2015 at 13:57 |

I guess but the 3 will likely handle better and zoom zoom!
![]() 06/25/2015 at 13:58 |

It will be coming with a diesel, albeit a year from launch. GM’s even mulling over bringing out a hatch version. Now all it needs is manual, but only time will tell.
![]() 06/25/2015 at 13:59 |

The 3 will handle better, but at the end of the day, it’s all about the bottom line. It may handle better, but does it handle $3,000 better?

I’ll give ya economy. But LOL @ footprint in America and we all know LS’ are reliable and easy to maintain.

Yeah, I was temped by the last cruze diesel but no wagon. I don’t know why GM or other companies can’t see that VW has a magic formula that sells like mad.
![]() 06/25/2015 at 14:03 |

I dunno either.

The design of which? The Malibu or the Cruze?
![]() 06/25/2015 at 14:05 |

It’s a 6 year old car. Any 6-year-old car will cost more to maintain than a new car. Also, parking spaces in Canada are cramped compared to American spaces.

The power is interesting.
The current 1.4T has 138 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. I have mine tuned, best guess is I’m at ~150-160hp and ~170-190 lb-ft of torque. So stock it has as much or more power as mine tuned. If a tune could see similar gains on the new motor....mother of god.
![]() 06/25/2015 at 14:06 |

I’d do it. It’s leaner, faster, and sharper. It’s supposed to go from 0-60 in around 8 seconds.
![]() 06/25/2015 at 14:08 |

Now if only GM had the stones to make a Cruze SS with AWD and the Regal’s 2.0T.
![]() 06/25/2015 at 14:10 |
|
The Camaro was only like 500 pounds heavier than the Cruze with a significantly larger motor, more complex suspension, and generally larger proportions. It was likely far more weight optimized to begin with.
![]() 06/25/2015 at 14:10 |
|
I’d rather have the sedan 3. The hatch looks like a beaten dog.
![]() 06/25/2015 at 14:12 |

I prefer the Hatch. You can’t see the Sedan’s exhaust tips, which is sad because nobody will know that you have dual tips.

Beaten dogs deserve good homes!
![]() 06/25/2015 at 14:13 |

Agreed, it’s a sharp looking car. And the interior looks nice, and probably better than mine. I’d really like to drive one to see how it feels with the power bump + weight cut.
That’s been my biggest complaint with my Cruze, it’s a nice driver but you can just feel the mass, it’s just a heavy car for being so small. I think the little 1.4L Turbo engine is fantastic engine, it just has too much ass to drag around.
![]() 06/25/2015 at 14:14 |
|
Why in the hell are your parking spaces smaller? You have MORE room!
Also I think your taking my comments too seriously.
![]() 06/25/2015 at 14:16 |

Or a new Sonic RS with an tuned version of the motor
![]() 06/25/2015 at 14:17 |

Yeah, but I can get one of those for free.

I’m perfectly okay if it’s on the base model, I don’t need all this dumb car play crap.

Screw the ugly hatch, bring the wagon over
![]() 06/25/2015 at 17:15 |

At least they put the bowtie in the right spot with this one.
![]() 06/26/2015 at 11:26 |

Agreed
![]() 06/26/2015 at 11:28 |

1: Because we buy more small cars, so therefore parking spaces that are barely big enough for a mid-size sedan are commonplace.
2: Indeed.
![]() 06/26/2015 at 11:28 |

More power, less to drag around. Sounds like a win-win to me.
![]() 06/26/2015 at 12:13 |

Yeah. I had mine tunes, its now putting out around 180HP and 200 ft-lbs. Its so much better than stock, but you can still feel the weight in the turns and such.
